An organic lavender bouquet, hand cut and shaped, comes from “Le Château de la Gabelle” in Provence, a small team of artisans based in a 13th century castle among the lavender fields. The fragrance of this bouquet is very subtle because it was harvested during the early blossom, when the colour of the flowers is at its prettiest, and when the essential oil glands are still young and small.

If kept away from the direct sunlight and humidity, this bouquet can last for months and even years.

The bouquet weighs 80g and is about 30cm long.

Please note, each bouquet is unique, the bouquet shipped will look like the photo but will never be exactly the same.

A bit of history

In France, lavender isn’t just a plant—it’s a beloved symbol of the South, often found gracing postcards and Instagram feeds alike. But not all lavender is created equal. Out of 47 varieties, the one that steals the show in Provence is Lavandula Angustifolia, or Fine Lavender.

This high-altitude beauty is renowned for its precious essential oil, known to treat everything from insomnia, to burns, to muscle pain. The Romans adored it in their baths and laundry for its antiseptic properties, which is where the name “Lavandula” (from the Latin “lavare,” meaning “to wash”) originates. It takes a staggering 130kg of Fine Lavender flowers to produce just one liter of essential oil, making it a rare and precious commodity.

But by the early 20th century, Fine Lavender was close to extinction, its demand plummeting with the invention and rise of synthetic perfumes and cultivation of more resilient, cost-effective varieties of Lavandula, such as like Lavandin who can live in the North, including the Netherlands, and has a more intense fragrance. Thankfully, the 1990s saw a revival of organic farming and a renewed love for natural products, breathing life back into Fine Lavender cultivation. Now, artisans across France are using this treasure in their creations, ensuring its continued growth and legacy.
